Work Licencing
HIGH RISK WORK LICENCES
Licences are required for workers carrying out certain classes of high-risk work.
Anyone carrying out high risk work, like operating a forklift, EWP or non slew crane, must hold a high-risk work licence.
Employers must not allow a worker to carry out high risk work (for which a high-risk work licence is required) unless:
- they have a high-risk work licence
- written evidence is provided by the worker stating they have the relevant high risk work licence.
To obtain a HRW licence, individuals must:
Undergo formal training provided by an RTO approved to deliver the specific course competency.
Apply to Workplace Health and Safety Queensland (WHSQ), as HRW licences are renewable, photographic, and recognized nationally.
Renew the licence every 5 years, ensuring that their contact details are up-to-date within 14 days of any change.
A valid HRW licence will have a photograph, the date the card was originally produced, and an expiry date. Employers must not allow a worker to carry out HRW unless they hold an appropriate licence.
